    CALL FOR PAPERS

The Linguistic Association of Finland is organizing a symposium on

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SYNTAX AND SEMANTICS IN THE ANALYSIS OF LINGUISTIC STRUCTURE

to be held at the University of Helsinki, September 2-4, 1999.

The symposium will bring together linguists interested in all aspects of language that relate to the relationship between syntax and semantics (such as argument structure, other types of constructions, linking, the role of context and lexical items, cognitive issues, idioms etc.). The aim of the symposium is to discuss the analysis of linguistic data as well as theoretical issues. The focus will be on linguistic phenomena rather than any particular descriptive formalism. Participants are strongly encouraged to give a paper on any aspect of the relation between syntax and semantics, as this is an excellent opportunity to get feedback from others working in this area.
