SYNTACTIC FUNCTIONS - FOCUS ON THE PERIPHERY
Symposium to be held in Helsinki, November 14-15, 2003
Second Circular, October 31, 2003
Dear Participants,
We are looking forward to meeting you all in Helsinki on the 13th of
November. This letter contains some up-to-date information about the
symposium.
PROGRAMME
The final programme of the symposium is available on our website
http://www.ling.helsinki.fi/sky/tapahtumat/synfunct/synfunct.shtml.
Due to some unfortunate cancellations, we have been obliged to
reorganize the programme to some extent.
SOME RECOMMENDED PREPARATIONS
Please note that there will be no special abstract booklet. If you wish
to have the abstracts of the presentations on paper, we kindly ask you
to print them yourself. For the sake of better readability, we recommend
that you print the pdf-file
http://www.ling.helsinki.fi/sky/tapahtumat/synfunct/synfunctabstr.pdf.
If you have paid the registration fee in advance, please take the
receipt with you. If you plan to pay upon arrival, note that we can only
accept cash payment.
THE SOCIAL PROGRAM
On Thursday evening (November 13) starting at 6 pm, we will have an
informal get-together in the House of Sciences (Tieteiden talo, Address:
Kirkkokatu 6).
The conference dinner on Friday evening will be served by the restaurant
Kolme kruunua. They need some information in advance, so please let us
know whether you want to join the dinner and what you would like to
choose from the menu (you can find the menu in the end of this message).
You can send the information by replying to this message by Friday
November 7 (but please be careful not to reply to the whole list!).
INFORMATION FOR THOSE GIVING A PRESENTATION
When taking copies of your handouts, please note that the total number
of participants is around 90, and there are two parallel sessions.
There is a data projector, an overhead projector and a blackboard in the
lecture rooms. If you need any other equipment, please let us know in
advance.
Please remember that your presentation should not exceed 20 minutes (+8
minutes for discussion).
INFORMATION FOR POSTER AUTHORS
We ask you to arrive in good time on Friday morning in the House of
Sciences and take your poster with you. One of the organizers will help
you to hang up your poster in the exhibition hall on the fifth floor.
OPEN BOOK EXHIBITION
We encourage you to bring copies of yours or your close colleagues'
latest publications. The book exhibition takes place in the exhibition
hall on the fifth floor. Don't be modest and don't hesitate to bring
your publications with you! The book exhibition will give us all a good
possibility to learn more about current developments in the field.
WEATHER IN FINLAND
The weather is unpredictable in Finland. In November we may still have
quite pleasant autumn weather, but be prepared for low temperatures,
rainy days and chilly nights!
FURTHER INFORMATION
If you have any questions, please use the address of the organizing
committee , as before.
Welcome to Helsinki!
