_MonAKO Glossary_
Definitions of central concepts in Translation Studies, and possible translations in Finnish, Swedish, German and French
Translation Studies does not have a standardized terminology in any language. Many terms are connected to a particular translation theory, and may have specialized senses that are different from their use in everyday language. This glossary is based on preliminary pro-gradu work by Kaisa Appelqvist and Marjut Aho, and consultation with colleagues. Responsibility for this version is mine (Andrew Chesterman). It is an ongoing project: we hope to add further languages and expand the list of terms, so all suggestions and corrections are welcome! The definitions given are my own formulations. If a source is mentioned, this indicates the (or a) major origin of the term (see references at the end). The translations suggested do not include all possible alternatives.
