Esitiedot: kurssin Psychology of Language
suorittaminen.
Tavoitteet: The aim of the course is
to give an overview of how our mind and brain processes
language, with a special emphasis on bilingualism in general and
Finnish-Swedish bilingualism in particular. The vast structural
differences between Finnish and Swedish give particularly
interesting comparison points for bilingualism
research.
Sisältö: 1. Overview I: cognitive
aspects of language processing (Raymond Bertram), 2. Overview
II: neurocognitive aspects of language processing (Matti Laine),
3. Fundamentals of first language acquisition (Raymond Bertram),
4. Second language acquisition I (Raymond Bertram), 5. Second
language acquisition II (Raymond Bertram), 6. The bilingual
mental lexicon (Raymond Bertram), 7. The neuropsychology of
bilingualism: aphasia studies (Matti Laine), 8. Demonstrations
of behavioral functional brain imaging techniques in the study
of language processing (Reaction time experiments, eye movement
registration, EEG, fMRI and PET (Raymond Bertram and Matti
Laine), 9. The neuropsychology of bilingualism: cognitive
neuroimaging (Matti Laine). Lectures, reading of recommended
literature, demonstrations of behavioral and functional brain
imaging techniques. There will be a written exam at the end of
the course.
Kirjallisuus: Selected review articles and
book chapters on bilingualism.
