Kurssikuvaus

Esitiedot:

• Knowledge of Unix (for example, Clt130)
• Knowledge of Emacs (for example, Clt131). See also Chapters 1-5 of Cameron, Rosenblatt & Raymond, Learning GNU Emacs, O'Reilly, 1996.

Knowledge of programming is not a prerequisite. The course is suitable for language students who do not have a computer science background.

Tavoitteet:

• First, students gain practical experience of creating structured documents, using LaTeX to produce printed texts and using HTML to make web pages.
• Next, students learn how to define structured information with XML, and gain experience of XML-based techniques for processing structured documents, including automatic XML-to-HTML and XML-to-PDF transformations.
• Finally, the course introduces further XML-based structured document processing technologies, including Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG).

• XML-to-HTML and XML-to-PDF transformations
• XSL-FO for document formatting and layout
• SVG for XML-based graphics
