Kurssikuvaus
Esitiedot:
- Basic knowledge of Java programming.
- Knowledge of XML and XSLT (for example, Ctl230).
Tavoitteet:
-
Students will learn to use a range of open source software tools
and development methods for language technology projects.
-
The tools are free, Java- and XML-based, and run on Windows
as well as Linux. Students may download them for home use.

The tools and methods can be used separately or in combination.
Combinations of tools are available as IDEs
(Integrated Development Environments). Students will learn how
to avoid becoming "locked in" to one particular IDE.

Later in the course, students will learn to use more powerful
open source tools and language technology resources,
including SQL databases, GATE and WordNet.

- Extreme Programming: unit testing with JUnit
- Open source IDEs: managing projects with Ant
- Open source database systems: Java and SQL
- GATE: an IDE for language technology
- WordNet: an English lexical database
