[eu_members at aclweb dot org] National Institute of Standards and Technology Text Analysis Conference - Call for Task Proposals
National Institute of Standards and Technology
Text Analysis Conference
CALL FOR TASK PROPOSALS
Deadline: Wednesday, October 15, 2008
The Text Analysis Conference is soliciting proposals for tasks to
include in TAC 2009. You are invited to submit proposals either for a
new track (set of one or more related tasks), or for tasks within an
existing TAC track:
Proposals will be reviewed by the TAC Advisory Committee, and a small
number may be selected for discussion at the TAC 2008 workshop. If your proposal is selected for discussion, please be prepared to present the proposed task(s) at the TAC 2008 workshop. The final decision about
which tasks to include in TAC 2009, will be made after discussion at the TAC 2008 workshop.
Criteria for selection of tasks include: a strong advocate who is
willing to be the task coordinator (outside of NIST, task coordinator is a volunteer position); a large enough core of interested researchers to make the task viable; the availability of sufficient resources such as appropriate corpora and assessors with expertise in the area; and the fit with other tasks.
Proposals must contain enough information for the Advisory Committee to
assess the criteria above. Proposals should contain an explicit
statement of the goals of the task (i.e., what is expected to be learned and/or what infrastructure would be created if the task were run). If manual assessment or annotation is required, the proposal should include where the assessing would occur (NIST or elsewhere?), any special qualifications the assessors would need (special domain expertise required?), as well as an estimate of the amount of time such assessing would require. Any special constraints on the necessary corpora should also be noted. Finally, proposals must contain full contact details of the proposer.
Please email task proposals as a postscript, PDF, or ASCII document to
tac-manager at nist dot gov by October 15, 2008.
